General FAQs

What is the benefit of having the DSEHP?

It allows all of us to work together through the Unions to obtain the best quality healthcare at the most affordable rates. This would not be possible without the support of the district, and we thank them for working together for a solution that has been beneficial to all.

How does the DSEHP operate?

The DSEHP has contracted with K&M Accounting, Gallagher and PlanSource to obtain insurance quotes and complete all record keeping requirements.

What is a VEBA?

VEBA is an acronym for Voluntary Employee Benefit Association (VEBA) and is a 501c tax exempt corporation. It is important to note that the DSEHP-VEBA is the ONLY Public School District VEBA completely run by the unions in the district. Without these strong unions, this would not be possible.

How does the DSEHP exist?

The Dearborn Schools Employee Healthcare Program (DSEHP) is only possible if our Unions maintain a strong membership in good standing and negotiations with the district continue to be interest-based so that all involved have the best interests of DPS employees and their families as the top priority. A decrease in Union membership could put the DSEHP in danger of dissolving.

DSEHP VEBA?

DSEHP VEBA is the name of the company. The DSEHP, Union owned and operated, was formed to handle your benefits, such as, medical, dental, vision and voluntary products for the Unions knew they would negotiate with insurance companies to benefit their members.

Who is on the DSEHP Board?

The Board consists of each of the Presidents of the four Dearborn Public Schools unions; the Dearborn Federation of Teachers (DFT), Dearborn Federation of School Employees (DFSE), the Association of Dearborn School Administrators (ADSA), and the Dearborn Schools Operating Engineers Association (DSOEA).

What is the DSEHP-Wellness Committee?

The Wellness Committee is a voluntary subcommittee of the DSEHP VEBA formed to help provide information, services, and resources to members related to physical, financial, social/emotional, community, and career wellness.

What are the DSEHP-Charter Committees?

The Charter Committees are made up of union members, in good standing, that work as ambassadors of the program. They are voluntary positions that work to share information regarding the program to their Union co-workers. Also, if a change of plan is required, they would learn about the plan options and provide input.

If I would like to serve on the Wellness or Charter Committees, what would I do?

Please contact your Union President with the committee you desire to serve.

Why is Wellness Important?

By encouraging and supporting a healthy lifestyle for all Dearborn Public School employees, we can stabilize the cost of healthcare, improve our work environment, and make better the lives of our members and their families.
